Abstract

Ovaj rad analizira ulogu korejskog vala kao instrumenta meke moći Južne Koreje u vanjskoj politici. Stoljećima okarakterizirana kao „račić među kitovima“, potaknuta snažnim gospodarskim i tehnološkim razvojem Koreja stvara (kulturni) val kojim utječe na (društvena) kretanja (političkih) kitova. Privatizacija medija, potaknuta nastankom konsolidirane demokracije te državne intervencije u izgradnji najsuvremenijih komunikacijskih infrastruktura stvaraju snažan proces medijatizacije. Medijatizacija državne i privatne domene omogućuje uspješan razvoj korejske kulturne industrije. U radu ćemo analitičkom šetnjom od teorije do primjera utjecaja istražiti politički i kulturni razvoj korejskog vala pod koherentnim vodstvom demokratski izabranih predsjednika. Na primjerima Kine, Japana i Tajvana, te zemalja ASEAN-a istražujemo proces instrumentalizacije meke moći korejskog vala, koja kontinuirano raste te bilježi nove globalne uspjehe. Južna Koreja nam služi kao primjer zemlje koja društvene i medijske trendove koristi kao resurse stvaranja vlastite moći. Moći koja privlači.

Abstract (english)

This paper analyzes the role of the Korean wave as a soft power instrument of South Korean foreign policy. After centuries of being characterised as "a shrimp among whales“, South Korea created a (cultural) Wave, encouraged by strong economic and technological development, which influences (social) movements of (political) whales. A strong process of mediatization was created by media privatization, which followed consolidation of democracy, and the state interventions in the construction of state-of-the-art communication infrastructures. The Mediatization of political and social domains enabled successful development of Korean cultural industry. By taking the analytical walk from theory to examples of (the Korean wave) influence, in this paper we will explore the political and cultural development of the Korean wave under coherent leadership of democratically elected presidents. By using the examples of China, Japan and Taiwan, as well as of some ASEAN member states, the paper analyzes the process of soft power instrumentalization of the Korean wave, which is continuously growing and is achieving new global successes. South Korea will serve us as an example of a country which uses social and media trends as resources to generate its power. The Power that attracts.
