Abstract

Politika proširenja najvažniji je instrument Europske unije koji za cilj ima ujedinjenje europskih zemalja, širenje stabilnosti i stjecanje globalnog utjecaja. Nakon što je Hrvatska postala 28. članica, ostaje pitanje što je s ostalim državama jugoistočne Europe koje su okupljene pod nazivom „šestorica Zapadnog Balkana“ te hoće li se EU u skoroj budućnosti proširiti na to područje. Budući da ih na putu ulaska u članstvo sputavaju mnogi bilateralni problemi, u promatranom petogodišnjem razdoblju pokrenuto je nekoliko inicijativa te mnoge strategije i akcijski planovi za njihovu što bržu integraciju. Iako pregovori jesu u tijeku, sama politika proširenja je zaustavljena na neko vrijeme. Ona se pretvorila u otvoreni proces s neizvjesnim krajem te rastućom frustracijom ovih šest zemalja koje bi alternativu u budućnosti mogle potražiti u Turskoj, Kini ili Rusiji čiji utjecaj u regiji sve više raste.

Abstract (english)

The Enlargement policy is the most important instrument of the European Union whose aim is the unification of European countries, spreading of stability and gaining global influence. Whereas Croatia became the 28th member of the EU in 2013, the questions of the other Southeast European countries collectively known under the name 'The Western Balkans-Six' and whether the EU intends to expand towards that area in the near future remain unanswered. Since many bilateral problems are preventing them from membership, several initiatives and many strategies and action plans had been launched over the last five-year period in order to integrate them as quickly as possible. Although the negotiations are still ongoing, the enlargement policy itself has been halted for some time. It has turned into an open process with an unclear end, and the growing frustration of these six countries which could look for an alternative in Turkey, China or Russia, whose influence in the region is growing.
