Abstract

Ovaj diplomski rad istražuje konstrukciju identiteta u virtualnom svijetu, odnosno konstrukciju identiteta na društvenoj mreži Facebook. Rad započinje prikazom teorijskih koncepata koje su ponudili Giddens i Goffman. Obojica autora tvrde kako identitet nije nešto trajno zadano već da je on u stalnom procesu nastajanja unutar društvenog okruženja. Kako bi se odgovorilo na istraživačko pitanje – kako korisnici konstruiraju identitet na Facebooku i koju su to elementi koji se ističu na Facebook profilu i kroz koje korisnik predstavlja sebe – korištena je metoda virtualne etnografije. Istraživanje Facebooka provedeno je u razdoblju od mjesec dana na 15 sudionika. Došlo se je do zaključka kako se identitet na Facebooku reducira na najosnovnije što korisnik želi da svi o njemu znaju i da ga s tim povezuju. Također, zaključeno je kako se želi ostaviti pozitivan dojam što utječe na sadržaj koji se objavljuje, odnosno ne objavljuje.

Abstract (english)

This paper examines the construction of identity in cyberspace, regarding the construction of identity on social network Facebook. The paper begins with an overview of the theoretical concepts offered by Giddens and Goffman. Both authors claim that identity isn't something that is permanently default, rather identity is in a constant process of formation within the social environment. In order to answer the research question - how users construct identity on Facebook and which are the elemnts that they underline on Facebook, and through which the user presents himself – it was used the method of virtual ethnography. The survey of Facebook was conducted in the period of one month among 15 participants. It is concluded that Facebook identity is reduced on basic information that users want to share with everybody, and on information with which they want to be associated by others. Also, it is concluded that users want to leave a positive impression, and that affect on content that is published, or rather isn't.
