Abstract

Ovaj rad istražuje tematiku crnih lista, temeljnog sredstva za diskriminaciju komunističkih pristaša u Hollywoodu. Pritom se analizira i povijesno-politički kontekst, fokusirajući se na uzrok stvaranja crnih lista i utjecaj na filmsku industriju. Politička uvjerenja u tom razdoblju postaju pitanje nacionalne sigurnosti. Potkopavanje političkih protivnika neutemeljenim napadima na njihovu lojalnost državi poznati su kao razdoblje makartizma kada su se američki državljani suočili s nizom restriktivnih mjera. Američko je društvo za vrijeme Hladnog rata bilo preplavljeno osjećajima sumnje, straha i nesigurnosti, gdje je svatko mogao biti potencijalni doušnik i gdje se svaka gesta mogla percipirati kao znak zavjere. No, postavlja se pitanje stvarnog stupnja ugroze što dovodi do potrebe razlikovanja pojmova stvarnih i potencijalnih protivnika. Fokus je usmjeren na sferu koja nije bila primarno politička, no koja je u to vrijeme zadobila upravo suprotno obilježje, zbog čega će se odgovoriti na pitanje na koji su način politički akteri djelovali protiv određenih kulturnih osoba na temelju političke propagande. S obzirom da pitanje političkih uvjerenja postaje pitanje nacionalne sigurnosti, u radu se analizira i uloga savezne sigurnosno obavještajne agencije, FBI-a i drugih ključnih aktera.

Abstract (english)

This paper explores the topic of blacklists, a fundamental tool for discrimination against communist supporters in Hollywood. The historical-political context is also analyzed, focusing on the cause of blacklists and the impact on the film industry. Political beliefs in that period became a matter of national security. Undermining political opponents with unfounded attacks on their loyalty to the state is known as the period of McCarthyism when American citizens faced a series of restrictive measures. American society during the Cold War was flooded with feelings of doubt, fear, and insecurity, where anyone could be a potential informant and where every gesture could be perceived as a sign of conspiracy. However, the question of the actual degree of threat arises, which leads to the need to distinguish between the notions of real and potential opponents. The focus is on a sphere that was not primarily political, but which at the time acquired the opposite character, which will answer the question of how political actors acted against certain cultural figures on the basis of political propaganda. As the issue of political beliefs becomes a matter of national security, the paper also analyzes the role domestic intelligence and security service, the FBI and other key actors.
