Abstract

Ovaj rad istražuje naslove o smrti na portalu Index.hr. Cilj istraživanja je bio saznati kako portal Index.hr izvještava o ozbiljnoj temi kao što je smrt te kako ju percipira. Istraživanjem su analizirani naslovi o smrti objavljeni na portalu Index.hr u 2023. godini te su se proučili jezik, struktura naslova, izbor riječ te stilske figure koje su se koristile. Metoda analize je bila kvalitativna analiza stila i retorike. Naslovi o smrti su bili podijeljeni u pet kategorija: naslovi o zločinima, ratovima, nesrećama, samoubojstvima i smrti slavnih osoba. Analiza je pokazala da su se u naslovima o smrti često koriste stilske figure. Kada je riječ o naslovima o zločinima, u njima često postoji lik negativca, točnije ubojice koji se metaforički naziva pogrdnim imenima kao što su monstrum, čudovište i zvijer. Kod naslova o ratovima je vidljiva crno-bijela karakterizacija, a zanimljivo je istaknuti i često spominjanje umiranja djece kako bi se pokazao kontrast između nevine djece i užasa rata. U naslovima o nesrećama je vidljiva personifikacija smrti ili predmeta koji su „krivi“ za smrt ljudi. Naslovi o samoubojstvima su najmanje kreativni po pitanju upotrebe jezika i u njima se ne koriste stilske figure. U naslovima o smrti slavnih osoba je čest metaforički prikaz smrti kao odlaska te se odaje počast preminuloj osobi. Naslove iz svih spomenutih kategorija, osim o samoubojstvima, karakterizira upotreba epiteta kojima se izaziva jeza, strah i žaljenje. Također, često se koriste i disfemizmi, odnosno grublje riječi kojima je cilj šokirati čitatelja.

Abstract (english)

This paper analyzes headlines about death on the news portal Index.hr. The goal of the research was to find out how the Index.hr reports on a serious topic such as death and how it is perceived. The research analyzed headlines about death published on the Index.hr in 2023 and studied the language, structure of the headlines, choice of words and figures of speech used. The method of analysis was a qualitative analysis of style and rhetoric. Headlines about death were divided into five categories: headlines about crimes, wars, accidents, suicides and celebrity deaths. The analysis showed that figures of speech are often used in headlines about death. When it comes to crime titles, they often feature a villain, or rather a murderer, who is metaphorically referred to by derogatory names such as monster and beast. Black and white characterization is visible in titles about wars, and it is interesting to highlight the frequent mention of children dying to show the contrast between innocent children and the horrors of war. In headlines about accidents is visible the personification of death or objects that are "to blame" for the death of people. Suicide headlines are the least creative in their use of language and do not use figures of speech. In headlines about celebrity deaths, there is often a metaphorical representation of death as a departure, and tributes are paid to the deceased person. Headlines from all the mentioned categories, except for suicides, are characterized by the use of epithets that evoke creeps, fear and mourning. Also, dysphemisms are often used, i.e. harsher words aimed at shocking the reader.
