Abstract

Autorica u radu prikazuje komparaciju fenomena Arapskog proljeća kroz binarnu studiju Egipta i Tunisa. Pritom postavlja pitanje zašto je demokratizacija u Tunisu uspjela, a u Egiptu nije. Koristi se argument kako je Tunis bio otvoreniji prema promjenama, te da su demokratizaciji bitno pridonijeli priroda i otvorenost islamističke stranke Ennahda prema suradnji sa sekularnim strankama. Značajan dio rada posvećen je proučavanju konteksta u kojem su se našle te dvije države netom prije revolucije, kako bi se pokušao objasniti njen ishod. Autorica je prikazala ključne aktere uključene u proces, od kojih su u Egiptu najvažniji Muslimansko bratstvo i Vrhovno vijeće vojnih snaga, a u Tunisu stranka Ennahda.
S obzirom na pobjedu islamističkih stranaka u obje države na prvim slobodnim izborima, autorica smatra kako su akteri uključeni u demokratizaciju u Tunisu bili spremniji na promjene i kompromis, što je u konačnici dovelo i do zaključka kako je revolucija u Tunisu provedena uspješnije.

Abstract (english)

In this paper, the author portrays a comparison of the Arab spring phenomenon through a binary study of Egypt and Tunisia. The author asks why democratization in Tunisia succedeed, whereas in Egypt it was unsuccessful. She makes the argument that Tunisia was more open to changes and that the nature and openness of the islamic party Ennahdha towards cooperating with secular parties contributed greatly to the democratization process. A large part of the paper is dedicated to studying the context in which Egypt and Tunisia were operating prior to the Arab spring and revolutions, so to easier explain its results. The author portrays the key actors involved in the process, primarily the Muslim brotherhood and the Supreme council of armed forces in Egypt, as well as Ennahdha in Tunisia. Regarding the victory of the islamic parties in both states' first free elections, the author considers the fact that the parties involved in the democratization process in Tunisia were more open to change and compromise, which in turn leads to the author's conclusion that the revolution in Tunisia turned out more successful.
