Abstract

Ovaj rad je imao dva cilja. Prvi je bio pokazati koliko se o epilepsiji izvještava na najčitanijim news portalima jutarnji.hr i vecernji.hr, te na koji način. To je učinjeno statističkom obradom svih članaka o epilepsiji u razdoblju od 1.1.2012 do 1.1.2017. Rezultati su pokazati da se objavilo iznimno malo članaka. Sadržajno su članci u globalu bili većinom neutralni i bavili su se najviše savjetima liječnika oboljelima ili poznatim iz svijeta kulture koji boluju od epilepsije. Drugi cilj ovoga rada je bio istražiti stavove studenata o epilepsiji. Istraživanje je provedeno metodom ankete zatvorenog tipa. Studenti su pokazali da znaju više o epilepsiji nego što smo pretpostavili. Te da smatraju kako oboljeli od epilepsije nisu stigmatizirani. Pokazalo se da nisu zainteresirani za rubriku zdravlje i da bi to radili samo u slučaju kad ne bi imali drugu opciju.
Ovim istraživanjem smo pokazali da se u proteklih pet godina gotovo uopće nije bavilo epilepsijom u novinarstvu. Unatoč tome veliki dio studenata zna o epilepsiji nešto više. Da li je to možda bilo sasvim slučajno na ovom uzorku? Moguće. Zato je potrebno provesti istraživanje na većem uzorku i na široj populaciji. Zabrinjavajuće je i to da nam se većina budućih novinara ne želi baviti zdravljem, Tu se nešto mora poduzeti ako mislimo čitateljima dati više informacija o epilepsiji.

Abstract (english)

This paper had two goals. First was to show how much is epilepsy being reported on in most read news portals jutarnji.hr and vecernji.hr and in what way. That was done with statistical analysis of all the articles about epilepsy in the period between 1.1.2012 and 1.1.2017. Results have shown that extremely few articles were published. Content wise, articles were in general mostly neutral and they were dealing mostly with doctor recommendations to the ill or with celebrities that are suffering from epilepsy. Second goal of this paper was to research student attitudes toward epilepsy. Research was done by closed-type questionnaire method. Students shown that they know more about epilepsy than we have assumed. And that they think that people that suffer from epilepsy are not stigmatized. It was showed that they are not interested for the health column and that they would work on that only in the case of no other options. With this research, we have shown that in the last five years almost no epilepsy has been reported in journalism. Despite that, big share of students know a bit more about epilepsy. Is it possible that this was a mere coincidence in this sample? It is possible. Because of that it is needed to conduct research on bigger sample and broader population. It is a worrisome that most of the future journalists do not want to report on health. Here something must be done if we want to give the readers more information about epilepsy.
