Abstract

Skandinavske zemlje poznate su po konceptu države blagostanja i visokom društvenom bogatstvu. Teže jednakosti svih građana i zalažu se za univerzalistički pristup u društvu te su uvijek među najsretnijim nacijama na svijetu. Ovaj rad fokusira se na razinu otpornosti Finske, Danske, Norveške i Švedske u kontekstu dvaju kriza svjetskih razmjera, one ekonomske iz 2008. godine te aktualne zdravstveno-ekonomske krize uzrokovane pandemijom SARS-CoV-2 virusa. Prvi dio posvećen je analizi države blagostanja, njenim karakteristikama i suvremenim izazovima. Drugi dio bavi se analizom ekonomske krize koja je zahvatila svijet 2008. godine, dok treći dio analizira zdravstvenu krizu uzrokovanu SARS-CoV-2 virusom koja je ubrzo postala i ekonomska. Kroz analizu raznih socijalnih, ekonomskih i zdravstvenih podataka cilj je ustanoviti koji faktori doprinose otpornosti spomenutih zemalja na navedene egzogene šokove.

Abstract (english)

Scandinavian countries are known for their welfare state concept and high living standards. They pursue equality of all citizens and stand for universality, an all-embracing approach in society, and are constantly ranked among the happiest nations in the world. This thesis focuses on the level of resilience shown by Finland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden during two global-scale crises, the 2008 economic crisis and the current health and economic crisis caused by the SARS-COV-2 virus pandemic. The first part concentrates on the analysis of the welfare state, its characteristics, and contemporary challenges. The second part outlines the analysis of the economic crisis that hit the world in 2008, while the third part analyzes the health crisis, caused by the SARS-COV-2 virus, which soon transcended into the economic crisis as well. The study of various social, economic and health care data serve to identify factors that stimulate and contribute to the resilience of the mentioned countries in their response to exogenous shocks.
