Abstract

Intervencija zapadnih snaga u Afganistan nakon terorističkog napada na Sjedinjene Američke Države 11. rujna 2001. godine je započela dva desetljeća dug Afganistanski rat, te u sklopu njega, projekt izgradnje države. Povratak talibanskog režima u Afganistan je otvorio diskusiju o pojašnjenju neuspjeha Zapada u svom naumu da obnovi afganistansku državu utemeljenu na demokratskim načelima čime bi se stabilizirala regija, ali i iskorijenile terorističke organizacije kao što je Al Kaida koje više ne bi imali čvrstog uporišta. Provođenjem empirijskog istraživanja utemeljenog na konceptu izgradnje države u Afganistanu te realističkog pristupa preuzetog od strane Zapada, utvrđeni su brojni razlozi te shodno tome, identificirane lekcije koje upozoravaju na napravljene pogreške. Američka predanost iskorjenjivanju terorističkih grupa i talibana podredila je cjelokupni projekt izgradnje države, koji je također patio od kronične nekoherentnosti i kontekstualnog nerazumijevanja afganistanskog društva i regije općenito. Postupanje prema principima realizma prilikom implementacije projekta izgradnje države u Afganistanu je učinilo proces krhkim i neučinkovitim.

Abstract (english)

The intervention of the West in Afghanistan after the terrorist attack on the United States on September 11, 2001, began a two-decade-long Afghanistan war, and as part of it, a nation-building project. The return of the Taliban regime to Afghanistan has opened a discussion to explain the West's failure to rebuild an Afghan state based on democratic principles that would stabilize the region and eradicate terrorist organizations such as Al Qaeda that would no longer have a stronghold. Conducting empirical research based on the concept of nation-building in Afghanistan and a realistic approach taken by the West, identified a number of reasons and, accordingly, identified lessons to warn of mistakes made. America’s commitment to eradicate terrorist groups and the Taliban has subordinated the entire nation-building project that has also suffered from chronic incoherence and contextual misunderstandings of Afghan society and the region in general. Acting on the principles of realism in the implementation of the nation-building project in Afghanistan has made the process fragile and inefficient.
