Abstract

Zbog važnosti koju sport ima za društvo, ovaj diplomski rad proučava marginalizaciju žena kao aktivnih sudionica sportskih događanja u prezentaciji na fotografijama u specijaliziranim sportskim dnevnim novinama. Budući da mediji znatno utječu na javnost, glavni cilj rada je ukazati na važnost veće zainteresiranosti medijskih djelatnika za ženski sport. Kako bi se dobila jasna slika o načinu prikazivanja sportašica u Sportskim novostima zadaća rada je analizom fotografija doći do odgovora na postavljena istraživačka pitanja o medijskoj zastupljenosti žena u sportu. Znanstvena relevantnost rada tim je veća što u Hrvatskoj nema mnogo javno objavljenih radova na ovu temu. Istraživanje se temelji na analizi sadržaja medijskog teksta provedenoj na slučajnom stratificiranom uzorku Sportskih novosti iz 2016. godine. Analizirano je ukupno 2109 fotografija. Rezultati analize su potvrdili početnu pretpostavku kako su žene u sportu u potpunosti podzastupljene u odnosu na svoje muške kolege. Ta muška dominacija vidljiva je i na naslovnicama Sportskih novosti. Također, rezultati su pokazali kako će mediji češće objaviti priču o muškarcu gubitniku, nego o ženi pobjednici. Razloge nedovoljne zainteresiranosti za ženski sport nije lako objasniti. Budući da sport prikazuje odraz društva i odnosa moći u njemu, rezultati ovog istraživanja trebaju skrenuti pozornost na nužnost borbe protiv nametnutih društvenih odnosa moći, prvenstveno ulaganjem u kvalitetno obrazovanje, kako bi neke buduće generacije kritički promišljale o medijskom sadržaju, a ne ga samo slijepo pratile.

Abstract (english)

Because of the importance that sport has for society, this graduate thesis studies the marginalization of women as active participants of sports events in the presentation on photographs in specialized sports daily newspapers. Since the media have a significant influence on the public, the main aim of the paper is to point out the importance of greater interest among media employees for female sports. In order to get a clear picture of how the female athletes appear in Sportske novosti, the main task is to find answers to research questions about the media representation of women in sports by analyzing the photographs. The scientific relevance of this work is even bigger because there are not enough published articles on this topic in Croatia. The research is based on a content analysis of a media text covering a random stratified sample of Sportske novosti in 2016. A total of 2109 photographs were analyzed. The results of the analysis confirmed the initial assumption that women in sports are completely under-represented compared to their male colleagues. This male dominance is also visible on the covers of Sportske novosti. Also, the results showed that media would more often publish a story about a man who lost than about a woman as a winner. The reasons for a lack of interest in female sports are not easy to explain. Because sport shows the reflection of society and power relations in it, the results of this research should draw attention to the necessity of fighting the imposed social relations of power, primarily by investing in quality education, in order for some future generations to critically think about media content and not just blindly follow it.
