Abstract

Ovaj rad bavi se tematikom neposrednog izbora lokalnih političkih aktera u Republici Hrvatskoj. Istražena su osnovna oblježja izbornih kampanja za gradonačelnika Splita 2009. i 2013. godine. Spomenute kampanje izvjestan su pokazatelj promjena u sferi političke komunikacije na lokalnoj razini. Cilj istraživanja ustvrditi je zašto i u kolikoj mjeri provođenje moderniziranih izbornih kampanja utječe na konačan ishod izbora. Kako konstrukcija političkog spektakla, pakiranje politike te modernizacija, kao glavni teorijski pristupi implementirani u suvremenom političkom komuniciranju, utječu na demokratski proces. Iako pojedini autori tvrde kako su spomenuti pristupi u jednoj mjeri pogubni za demokratsku političku kulturu građana, drugi ističu izrazito mobilizacijski potencijal i povećano znanje birača o samom izbornom procesu. Analizom osnovnih obilježja izbornih kampanja stečen je jasan uvid u legitimne oblike eksploatacije instrumenata suvremenog političkog komuniciranja, kroz prizmu medijski posredovanih kampanja.

Abstract (english)

This paper deals with the topic of direct elections of local politicians in the Republic of Croatia. The research is focused on basic features of campaigns in elections for mayor of Split in 2009 and 2013. Mentioned campaigns are an indication of changes in the sphere of political communication at the local level. The aim of the research is to say why and to what extent the implementation of the modernized local campaigns affects the final outcome of the elections. How the main theoretical approaches such as construction of political spectacle, packaging policy and modernization, implemented in contemporary political communication affect the democratic process. While some authors claim that the mentioned approaches are ruinous for democratic political culture, others point out mobilization voting potential and increased knowledge on electoral process. By analysing the basic features of both campaigns within the comparative case study, clear insight has been given to forms of legitimate exploatation of the instruments of modern political communication, through the prism of media-mediated campaigns.
