Abstract

Nakon Baršunaste revolucije i pada komunizma, mirni raspad Čehoslovačke donio je nove probleme i potrebu za rješavanjem pitanja uspostave vlasti i demokratizaciju društva za te dvije novostvorene države. Budući da su Češka i Slovačka do 1993. godine bile u zajedničkoj državi, a početak procesa demokratizacije je započeo 1989., možemo pretpostaviti da je njihov put k demokratizaciji imao zajedničku početnu točku i jednake uvjete za obje države. Rad se bavi komparativnom analizom pet elemenata demokratizacije, a to su demokratski izborni režim, institucionalne strukture, gospodarski razvoj, sloboda civilnog društva i sloboda izražavanja. Cilj ovog rada je izdvajanje faktora koje je utjecao na različite puteve demokratizacije u Češkoj i Slovačkoj.

Abstract (english)

After the Velvet Revolution and the fall of communism, the peaceful disintegration of Czechoslovakia brought new problems and the need to solve the issue of the establishment of government and the democratization of society for those two newly created states. Since the Czech Republic and Slovakia were in a common state until 1993, and the beginning of the democratization process began in 1989, we can assume that their path to democratization had a common starting point and equal conditions for both states. The paper deals with a comparative analysis of five elements of democratization, namely the democratic electoral regime, institutional structures, economic development, freedom of civil society and freedom of expression. The aim of this paper is to single out the factors that influenced the different paths of democratization in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
